When the Algorithm Gets You Again…

Homemade laundry booster jars made with Borax, baking soda, and OxiClean for family and Airbnb use.

When you watch the same thing show up on your social feed one too many times and finally decide, “Well… maybe this actually is a good idea.”

That’s exactly how this started.

One minute I was scrolling.
The next minute I was standing in the laundry aisle gathering:

  • Borax
  • Baking Soda
  • Oxi Clean

…and suddenly I was fully committed to mixing giant batches of homemade laundry booster for:

  • our house
  • the Airbnb
  • and my young adults

There’s something oddly satisfying about making things yourself — especially the simple everyday things you use constantly but never really think much about.

And honestly? It made me laugh a little realizing I had become that person… the one scooping powders into giant jars while labeling laundry instructions for everyone like some kind of homemaking chemist.

But I have to admit… it actually works really well.

UPDATED AND EDITED: I have to say, it does seem to be working great and a little goes a long way! The only change I would make is my next batch I will look for either scent free oxi clean, or an equivalent scent free product, as I don’t personally like fragrances and everyone should be aware of their adverse health effects.

The jars are now lined up and ready to go, complete with little instruction sheets because apparently once you start making homemade laundry mixes, you also become very passionate about proper towel stripping directions.

The best part might honestly be sending them home with my kids and stocking the Airbnb with something made by hand instead of just grabbing another plastic container off a shelf.

Will I keep making it forever?
Who knows.

But for now, it feels like one of those small little homemaking wins that makes life feel just a bit more intentional.

And apparently the algorithm knew me better than I thought it did.
